Welcome from the Executive Principal
The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding school in one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

🌹 Well done to all our students and staff for a fantastic Diada de Sant Jordi at BSB — a day full of roses, books, and talented performances across all our campuses!
🎭 Today we enjoyed rose and book sales for charity, book swaps, special Sant Jordi assemblies, theatre plays, awards ceremonies for the Jocs Florals, poetry readings, storytelling, author visits, and music performances. Thank you to @english_libros for another successful Book Fair!
📚 It was a wonderful day celebrating tradition and community spirit.
✨ Wishing you all a Feliç Sant Jordi — and we hope you’re ready for even more reading fun over the next two days and throughout Book Week next week!

🌹 Tomorrow we join our local community in celebrating Sant Jordi — a beloved Catalan tradition that reminds us of the magic of books and stories!
✨ At BSB, we cherish the opportunity to celebrate traditions from Catalunya and around the world. Sant Jordi brings together a love of reading and a love of culture, helping our students discover that every story can spark imagination, build understanding between cultures, and inspire new adventures.
📖 As Ariana Navas, one of our BSB Sitges teachers, says: "Agafa un bon llibre, desconnecta del món i que comenci l’aventura."

🌟 We`re looking forward to welcoming our students back after the Easter break! Last week, those who joined our Holiday Camps had a great time.
🤖 At BSB Castelldefels, students dived into Robotics & AI, played in the Football Camp, and stayed active with Wevy Sports. At BSB City, creativity took the spotlight with the Kinobs Games Camp.
📸 Here are some highlights from an action-packed week before heading back to school!

🏃What a Sports Day at BSB Castelldefels! Our students from Years 1, 2 and 3 took on a variety of stations: speed drills, balance tests, sack races, relays, jumping, and javelin throws. Year 3 even had a competitive race around the rugby field!
🏡 All activities were House based, focusing on participation and fun over competition. The atmosphere was incredible thanks to the families who came to support and cheer!
🙌 A huge shoutout to our amazing Year 6 students who stepped up as true leaders—explaining the stations, counting scores, and helping with medal presentations.
🏆 A beautiful day celebrating sportsmanship, teamwork, effort, and a healthy sense of competition among our young students! Well-done, everyone!

🏛️Continuing into more international trips, Secondary and Pre-University students from BSB Castelldefels travelled to Athens this week.
📚 Tying into both English and Politics curriculums, they explored classical tragedy and the roots of democracy in the very place it all began.
🔍 Highlights included visits to the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Pnyx, Areopagus, and Aristotle’s Lyceum. A unique trip linking classroom learning with real-world history and culture!

🎓 Huge congratulations to another Year 13 student who has received an offer to study Energy Science & Engineering at Stanford University.
🚀 Beyond outstanding academic results, his application stood out thanks to his intellectual curiosity — demonstrated through his participation in a research project on drone technology at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and his contribution to a scientific paper.
🌍 This is one of many fantastic university offers BSB students have received this year—from top institutions across Spain, the UK, the US, the Netherlands and many other countries.
👏 A big thank you to our Futures Team and staff who work year-round to support every step of the application journey.

FAQs
The British School Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
