Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

✨ This week, our BSB Nexus Digital Leaders visited BSB Sitges and BSB City to take part in assemblies, guiding our Primary students on responsible smartphone use.
💬 They didn’t just share key safety measures, but also took the time to answer thoughtful questions from our younger pupils about online security, helping them feel informed and confident in the digital world.
👩💻 Our Digital Leaders are Year 12 and Year 13 students involved in REACH Beyond Society, where they support younger learners in developing digital literacy, safe internet habits, and a deeper understanding of today’s technological world, while growing their own leadership skills along the way.
🌍 We love seeing this cross-campus collaboration and such inspiring role models making a real impact across the BSB community!

🌟 Mistakes Can Be Beautiful
🎨 This week, our BSB Sitges Primary students explored the idea that mistakes are opportunities to learn. Using the BSB Learning Habit of Creativity, they turned spilled ink and coffee marks into creative artworks, discovering that even when things go wrong, something beautiful can emerge.
👫 Assembly time is more than a gathering—it’s a chance for children to socialise across year groups, express their ideas, and speak confidently in front of an audience, building skills they will carry through every year of their education.
🏫 From the youngest Primary students to Year 13, BSB assemblies nurture creativity, communication, and confidence, helping students learn to embrace challenges and see mistakes as stepping stones to growth.

🎓 As our Year 11 Options Evening approaches, we’re highlighting this important moment of the year for our students at BSB City and BSB Castelldefels as they begin to plan their future pathways.
📖 Year 11 students are encouraged to reflect on their strengths, interests and future aspirations when selecting A Level subjects (offered at BSB Nexus) or the IB Diploma Programme (available at both campuses).
🔍 These programmes are more demanding than IGCSE, so making informed decisions now - guided by academic reports, teacher feedback and open conversations at home – is key.
🎓 Whether students have a clear university goal or are still exploring their options, tools like Unifrog, alongside personalised support from teachers and our Futures Team, help ensure choices are aligned with future study and career pathways.

☀️Whether it’s water play, time in the mud kitchen, or sand-castle construction, our Early Years pupils make the most of every season in our outdoor areas.
🍂 Feeling the sun, watching shadows change, and seeing how rain has transformed mud into something malleable helps children connect with the rhythms of nature.
🏗️ Our purpose-built outdoor environments are designed to spark curiosity and encourage active exploration. With large play areas and stimulating natural materials, children are free to experiment, collaborate, and turn their ideas into reality - building confidence, independence, and social skills along the way.
🌈 Play and exploration, active learning, flexible spaces, intentional teaching, and family collaboration are key pillars of our Early Years philosophy. You can learn more about our EYFS approach booking a visit to our campuses in Sitges, Castelldefels, Barcelona or Maresme via the link in our bio. Open Days available too!

✨ We have been recognised as one of the Top 100 Schools in Spain and Barcelona by @micoleoficial in the 2026 rankings - marking the sixth consecutive year of this achievement!
🏆 This distinction reflects a wide range of factors, including family reviews, online engagement, school visits, Open Day attendance, and other metrics collected by MiCole to highlight the best educational centres in Spain.
🏫 Our BSB Castelldefels & BSB Sitges campuses continue to shine among the top schools in Spain, while for the first time, BSB City Campus has been recognised independently as one of the top schools in Barcelona.
❤️ This recognition is a true testament to the passion, commitment, and excellence of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your continued support and trust — achievements like this are only possible because of you.

🌍 International Day of Education 2026: Celebrating the Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education.
👫 Young people under 30 make up more than half of the world’s population. They are a driving force for sustainable development, innovation, and social change.
📚 UNESCO reminds us that education systems are strongest when young people are active partners, not just learners. Their voices, ideas, and creativity shape schools, national policies, and international programmes - because the future depends on it.
🏫 At BSB, we bring this vision to life. From early on, our students take many leadership roles, such as sports leaders, eco-warriors, project creators, student counselors, and mentors for younger students, learning to lead responsibly and inspire others.
💡We focus on wellbeing, positive experiences, creativity, and personal growth, helping students develop the skills, confidence, and global mindset they will need to thrive in life.
🌟 By nurturing inventors, creators, and changemakers, we empower our students to co-create their learning, make a difference in their communities, and shape a better world - just as UNESCO envisions.

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
