Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

🎉 What a busy month it has been! Across our campuses and year groups, students have been taking their learning beyond the classroom and turning lessons into hands-on adventures.
🏛️ Year 4 in BSB City visited Roman Barcino to immerse themselves in Ancient Rome, understanding its influence on the Barcelona history and culture.
🎢 Year 12 from BSB Nexus practiced Catalan in Port Aventura while gathering material for their term projects. Interviews and observations helped them explore tourism from different perspectives, linking language learning with cultural understanding.
🗺️ Year 4 from BSB Sitges visited Catalunya en Miniatura. This visit allowed students to study Catalunya’s physical and human geography in an interactive way. They also took part in a robotics workshop.
🏺 And finally, Year 5 from BSB Castelldefels went to the Archaeological Museum in Barcelona. Linked to their Ancient Greece studies, students discovered architectural ingenuity at the Greek amphitheatre on Montjuïc, learning about acoustics and design used thousands of years ago.

👀 Take a sneak peek into our school kitchens!
✨These last two days, we’ve been visiting our BSB City kitchen to find out more about how our made-in-house meals and snacks come to life – and just in time for this month’s International Food Day, dedicated to Sweden!
👩🍳 On the menu today: Nordic-style fish soup, creamy veggie soup, traditional köttbullar (meatballs), citrus-baked salmon, and mashed potatoes! Also, we got a sneak peek on how we made our pizzas yesterday! 🍕
🍽️ Our meals support students’ wellbeing, helping them stay energised and focused throughout the school day. It’s also the perfect moment to enjoy some social time with friends over a nutritious, balanced meal.
🙏 A big thank you to our cooking and dining hall Saned teams who make this happen every day!

🌍 BSB Sitges Year 2 organised a local beach clean at La Fragata Beach in Sitges to help protect our environment and support our ongoing efforts to raise climate awareness.
💙 Families came together for this special activity, strengthening our connection not only with our local surroundings and the community of Sitges, but also with our shared commitment to sustainability.
🌊 This hands-on experience helped students understand the impact of plastic pollution in our natural spaces and reminded us all the importance of taking care of the world we call home.

⚽ What a week of sport at BSB! Our students jumped into an amazing mix of competitions against other BISA schools - full of teamwork, energy, and school spirit.
🏆 Last week, BSB Castelldefels hosted two football tournaments for different Secondary age groups, with boys’ and girls’ teams from BSB City, BSB Castelldefels, and many other schools giving it their all.
⏱️ Across two action-packed days, we played 700+ minutes of football and more than 40 matches. Non-stop talent, teamwork, and excitement on every pitch.
🔥 With days like these, we continue to expand our Sport offer to every student, as explained in our School Development Plan 2025–28. Here’s to many more moments like this!
🌟 Huge shout-out to our NEXUS BTEC Sport and Student Leaders, who coached, officiated, and ran the tournament with professionalism and incredible energy.
👏 Massive well done to all players, coaches, supporters, and student leaders — you made this event unforgettable.

🧠 Last weekend, our students took part in the Barcelona International Mathematics Competition, hosted by the Benjamin Franklin International School (@ bfisinternationalschool) – a team-based maths challenge.
📊 Our First Year, One Team, Big Impact. Since it was our first year participating, we brought just one team of three students from across Secondary years, and they competed in the BIMC 12 division.
🥇In the individual round, our students took 1st and 2nd place, and in the team round, BSB won 1st place! This was out of more than 150 participants from international schools across Barcelona - and we were the only school competing with just one team in one division.
👏 Huge congratulations to our students for their talent, teamwork, and incredible performance. A great start to our journey in this competition!

🧪Welcome to our newly expanded BSB STEAM Centre in Castelldefels!
🎉 Following our Executive Principal’s parent talks this week, families had the opportunity to tour the updated two-storey science hub, officially re-opened after half-term.
🔍 With support from student volunteers, families explored the new spaces designed for practical science, creative arts, and hands-on experimentation. As science remains one of our most chosen IB and A Level subjects, this development supports BSB’s ongoing work to provide students with the tools they need to engage with scientific learning and prepare for future careers.
🎨 The shift from STEM to STEAM also reflects the integration of an art space in the building. Students can now use sewing machines, a light table, a 3D printer, and specialised art facilities — creating opportunities for those pursuing creative and interdisciplinary pathways.
✨ We look forward to seeing how students make use of the expanded centre in the year ahead.

🎒 Yesterday, BSB Nexus welcomed the annual SRT University Fair, bringing together more than 30 universities and students from both BSB City and BSB Nexus campuses
🌏 With representatives from nine countries and multiple international campuses - including Bocconi University, UWE Bristol, the Geneva School of Diplomacy, and IE University - students from Years 11 and 12 explored a wide range of future academic pathways.
💬 The fair provided a valuable opportunity to ask questions, meet global universities face-to-face, and consider their next academic steps - right here on campus.
🌟 A huge thank you to our Futures Team for making this event possible, and to the SRT team (@srt.fairs) for their continued trust in us to host this event year after year.

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
