The British School of Barcelona‘s Holiday Camps are a unique opportunity that transforms holidays into an enriching educational experience. They are a set of fun activities specifically designed for students to learn, deepen and develop skills in different areas in a safe and stimulating environment, away from the school routine. They also encourage the development of new friendships and the exchange of experiences between children of different ages and cultures. In addition, these camps allow students from our Castelldefels, Sitges and City campuses in Barcelona to join and share educational interests, while promoting a sense of belonging to the BSB Community.

Learning opportunities for all tastes
The decision to design a specific programme for the holiday break stemmed from our constant search for learning opportunities for our students. “While we offer a wide range of after-school activities, we understand that not all students have the opportunity to enrol or participate in long-term projects on an ongoing basis. In addition, we wanted to offer a space where students could continue learning in a fun way, while at the same time promoting family reconciliation “, explains Pedro Sala, Business Development Officer at BSB.

Under this premise of learning in a playful and relaxed environment, the BSB Holiday Camps were created. Our first “stage” was held in collaboration with IGNITE Serious Play during the 2019 autumn half-term and focused on robotics and programming. In these camps, students work in small groups on projects based on their interests, boosting active construction and guided discovery. The main objective is to transform ideas into reality, following the scientific method.

Subsequently, we added the WEVY Sports Camp to our holiday offer. This camp, organised in collaboration with WAVE, is based on the development of motor skills in the youngest students. This camp arose as a response to the COVID-19 lockdown, which disrupted the ability of children to play and engage in sports as usual. The long-term results have proven to be highly positive for the development of the participants’ motor skills.

A great team of expert collaborators
All our Holiday Camps are organised by well-established school partners. We work closely with IGNITE Serious Play since the spring of 2019, delivering after-school clubs such as robotics, programming and virtual reality, and introduction to music, as well as Summer School activities. We have been working with WAVE since the autumn of 2020 at a curricular and extracurricular level, following their training methodology for the Early Years and Primary stages at all our campuses. And with HUMAES Sports Group we have been working since the summer of 2022 in a collaboration aimed at giving our students the opportunity to compete at a federated level in football.

High levels of satisfaction
Our Holiday Camps are open to both BSB and non-BSB students, spanning ages 4 to 16, depending on the programme selected. They are limited to 50 participants in total, and do not require any prior level tests or knowledge.

Feedback from our participants is extremely positive, and the high rate of repeat participation demonstrates their satisfaction. For example, at the WEVY Sports Camp, 80% of the students who attended the autumn camp returned at some point during the year.

Programme and new developments for the 2023-2024 academic year
Our Holiday Camps are currently offered at the BSB Castelldefels campus, although we are considering extending the offer to other BSB campuses. In addition, to meet the high demand from students coming from Barcelona, we have occasionally implemented a bus service from the city.

For the year 2023-2024, we have expanded our offer to three different camps:

  • The BSB Virtual Reality Camp, organised by IGNITE Serious Play, from 9.00 to 17.00 for students aged 6 to 12. In English.
  • The BSB WEVY Sports Camp, in collaboration with WAVE, from 9.00 to 16.30 for students from 4 to 9 years old. In Spanish.
  • The new BSB Football Camp, organised by HUMAES Sports Group, from 9.00 to 13.00 for students from 6 to 16 years old. In English. “Taking advantage of the synergy offered by the inclusion of federated football teams at BSB Castelldefels, which is undoubtedly one of the significant new developments in school sports, we wanted to continue to promote the culture of sport and offer a football camp for all levels. So, those who have not had the opportunity to sign up for football as an after-school activity can now participate in this camp. And for those who are already playing at school or federated level, it’s an opportunity to continue perfecting their technical skills,” explains Pedro Sala.

The BSB Holiday Camps are held during the half-term holidays in autumn and February, and also during Easter. In addition, every year we organise the Summer School, which runs from the end of June to the end of July, with an exciting programme of language, sport and entertainment activities for all ages.
